Provide answers below each question. References are required if you use any material (including the textbook) that is not common knowledge nor conventional wisdom. Each question is worth 20 points, and your responses for each should be at least ½ page (single-spaced) or one page (double-spaced) in length: 1. Racial injustice has been problematic in our country for as long as any of us can remember, and people are doing so much right now to help eradicate it. Discuss 2-3 examples of personal racism (e.g., experienced overtly or covertly by individuals) and 2-3 examples of systemic racism (e.g., those structures and institutions that tend to be more advantageous to White people) that affect people of color; then, cite and explain at least one example (each) of what you can do to help eradicate personal and systemic racism. 2. People with disabilities are often misunderstood, seen as less than, and experience discrimination. Do some more research on the moral, eugenic, and medical models of disability that we reviewed in class and discuss how each can be problematic for people with disabilities. Then, do some more research and discuss how the functional and social models may be more inclusive and helpful. 3. Discuss five things that you can do in an office/agency/practice setting that will make the space safer and more inclusive to those individuals who are not cisgender (e.g., transgender, gender non-binary, etc.). Be specific with the examples, and be sure to comment on how they can be helpful to this clientele. Then, cite two or three examples that you can do in your personal life to help. 4. Do some research in the counseling and related theory literature and identify one or two theories that have been suggested as helpful in working with either non-straight individuals (e.g., gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc.), non-cisgender individuals (e.g., trans, non-binary, etc.), or women. Provide a brief overview of the theory(s) and how experts believe it can be helpful for the population. Alternately, you can identify and describe a theory or two and discuss how and why you believe it would be helpful for the population if you cannot find any expert literature to back it up. 5. You are a 1-White, 2-straight, 3-middle class, 4-Christian, 5-man 6-without a disability. Give examples and discuss the potential privileges that may you have with regards to all 6 cultural variables. Be sure to give at least one example of potential privilege for each component of this person’s identity.
