Assignment:
This task asks you to build on your ability to apply a social or cultural concept to a popular music of your choice. By completing the writing task below, you will organize your thinking in order to write P2.
In your first paragraph, write a statement that:
Explains how one concept lends a particular meaning to the popular music that you have selected for analysis. (Be sure to choose one of the five concepts from the course – see the P2 prompt in GauchoSpace)
(The five main concepts of our course are: (1) cycles of cultural production, (2) recording technology and listening practices, (3) cultural appropriation, (4) subculture, and (5) intersectional identity politics.)
This statement must mention the musical topic, explain how the concept relates to the topic, and use at least two scholarly sources beyond course readings to enhance your analysis. Make sure that the connections between the musical topic, concept, and scholarly sources are clear, so that other readers understand the connections you are making.
Your statement should be 50-100 words.
In your second paragraph, write an explanation that:
Maps out the remainder of your P2. Explain how you will expand on what you have started in the first paragraph. State how each following portion of the paper will be related to what you have outlined in the statement. What will you discuss next? What after that? A concluding remark should mention why this is relevant for you and/or for others by answering the question: “what is at stake?” or “so what?”
Your explanation should be 100-150 words.
