In this assignment, you are writing a minimum 750-word letter of intent for a grant. A letter of intent is sent out to grant institutions to show them you have an interest in doing this particular work and to determine their interest in funding your project. In science, education, and even in some businesses, letters of intent and grants are a way of survival and growth. This grant is being offered through the American Chemical Society (ACS), and its purpose is to educate others on a compound. For the letter of intent, you are to pick a compound in the field of medicine, nutrition, pharmacology, or the environment. Introduce this compound and let the committee know about the compound and why it is important to learn about it. Write a logical, persuasive argument that will gain the reader’s interest and demonstrate how this will fill a void in an area that is lacking information. Be sure you do the following: Name the compound you are interested in. Identify the field of study you are focusing on with this compound. List the elements that are in the compound. Give some characteristics of the compound, such as boiling point, state of matter, density. Describe why this compound is important to learn about. Explain why this field of study is being chosen as the focus. Outline what you hope the audience will gain from learning about this compound. The letter of intent should be persuasive yet brief. Avoid any jargon that may make your letter hard to understand. The content should be as follows: Opening Introduction: Introduce yourself, your idea of creating an educational narrative presentation on the compound you are interested in, and the field of study that you will focus on. Statement of Need: Discuss why the compound is important to learn about and why that field of study is being chosen as the focus. Project Activity: Sell yourself and your compound. Explain why your compound and approach are worthy of funding. Outcomes: Discuss what you hope the audience will gain from learning about this compound Closing/Conclusion: Summarize your content and ask to submit a full proposal. Note: For the purposes of this assignment, you are not creating a complete letter of intent but some of the basics of a letter of intent for a grant. Basic Writing Requirements: Your work should be formatted as per APA formatting guidelines, including double-spacing the assignment and using a 10 or 12 font size. Include a title page, an introduction, and a conclusion. Your writing should address the topics and questions described above. All statements of fact should be cited in your letter using in-text citations, with their sources included in an APA style reference page at the end of the letter.
