Homework Submission
1. Create a concept map of Comerʻs first 5 chapters. You should include >= 25 nodes with linking words.
2. You are listening to your favorite music on ear buds (in-ear headphones; assume they do not contain the mp3 player). Your ear buds are connected to your smartphone via Bluetooth (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth) 5.0 radio. The music (the “message”) is stored on your phone as an mp3 file that you downloaded from an online music store. You used a cellular “last mile” connection to your ISP to download the music.
Explain the last steps of the process, from your phone to your ear buds to your ears, using vocabulary from the reading in this course, especially Comer, Shannon, and the modulation video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qyx8XV8dtE).
The following questions may help: Is the music stored on the phone analog or digital? How did it get that way? How about when the music is transmitted from the phone to the ear buds, or when the sound waves from the ear buds hit your eardrum? How is the bluetooth transmitter like a tiny radio station? What can disrupt the connection? What determines the sound quality of the music you hear?
Accurately use 11 of these 13 terms in your story: analog, digital, signal, noise, transmitter, receiver, channel, A-to D conversion, sampling, resolution (or bit depth), D-to-A conversion, carrier signal, modulation signal. Tell the story at the level covered in the lecture, readings, and links of the past several weeks; I am not looking for engineering-level analysis.
Place an order in 3 easy steps. Takes less than 5 mins.
