Think of someone you know and consider what he or she is like. What is this
individual’s personality, dominant characteristic, basic nature, etc.? think of how something this person owns or uses tends to reflect his or her
nature. Perhaps a car—its physical condition—mirrors the person’s traits or
qualities, method, approach to life, philosophy, or appearance; perhaps this
person’s office reveals much about who he or she is.
Write an essay that uses subjective descriiption to illustrate how some physical space,
object, or possession associated with a person demonstrates something about him or her.
Control your language—be “efficient.” At the same time, recognizing that figurative
language is the “spice coloring or flavoring the rice,” construct opportunities for readers
to experience sensually the details you focus upon
