Please see description in the syllabus 1. Check out these lists of famous journalists for subjects for your paper: https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2018/03/192866/women-of-color-journalists-reporters-list https://journalism.nyu.edu/about-us/news/the-100-outstanding-journalists-in-the-united-states-in-the-last-100-years/ https://mediablog.prnewswire.com/2021/02/17/10-influential-black-journalists-you-should-be-following/ You are not limited to these journalists, but they are among the most well recognized for their accomplishments. I am definitely up for you choosing other journalists, but you want to be sure they have a solid reputation and substantial works written by/about them (ideally books). You need approval for names not on this list, so email me your choice. 2. Write a 2-4 page, double-spaced paper about your journalist. The paper should describe their personal and professional history. Where were they born? Raised? How did they get interested in journalism? How did they get their start? How did they contribute to the field? What accomplishments were they known for? Quote them directly. Were they mainstream or alternative? Place them in the context of their times. 3. Be sure to use three sources and attribute your material. Again, I expect a bibliography or a Works Cited page at the end. Again, see Purdue Owl’s website on MLA style). No more than two sources should be solely online. Ideally, your subject has to have something written about him or her in a book or have written a book or chapter (I have some wiggle room here, but you do have to check with me). Wikipedia is NOT acceptable. 4. I am comfortable with you listing just one citation at the end of each paragraph. Most paragraphs can rely on a single source. You should list a source in parenthesis at the end of each paragraph. Usually, most of your information in a paragraph should come from one source for the purposes of this paper. If there are more sources used in a single paragraph, you can list more – but you don’t have to use an in-text citation for every single factoid. Be very, very careful about plagiarizing. Use your own words.
