Throughout the various style periods, composers have had their works pulled or boycotted due to the views of the composer. For example, the Nazis appropriated the works of several composers. The impact to the legacies of those composers has been interesting to follow. The most recent composer to come up against the “cancel culture” is Beethoven. What is the purpose of canceling music that is now woven into the fabric of Western Culture? You MUST include a Works Cited or Bibliography at the conclusion of your answer. Do you think canceling Richard Wagner, Richard Strauss or Ludwig van Beethoven is important or do you believe that works of art music should be judged/viewed through the lens of the time in which those works were written?
