This paper is a National or Texas-centered issue – you can choose in the federal class.
Select an issue that the National or Texas Democratic or Republican parties (depending if you choose a national or Texas issue) are divided on during the 2022 election cycle.Be specific for example – If you writing about a bill for example – you must identify the name of the actual bill.
Paper must be 500 words minimum – double spaced – Times Roman.
MLA bibliography page is not part of the 500 words or three pages.
MLA citation must be included (in-text) at the end of each paragraph (not introduction or conclusion)
MLA bibliography page must be included.
MLA Headers for each paragraph – Name the header based on:
Introduction
The name of the issue
Interest groups
Party
Group or demographic that supports the party
Conclusion
Both the outline and the paper combine for the overall grade.
The outline quiz is six questions and is due several weeks before the paper. This outline quiz comprises half of the assignment grade.
These are the six questions you must answer completely in your paper quiz:
What National or Texas issue are you writing about? (Be specific) – One sentence is enough for this answer.
What is the first interest group you have selected and what position do they hold on the issue? Include MLA citation of the interest group. One sentence is enough for this answer.
What is the second interest group you have selected and what opposing position do they hold on the issue? Include MLA citation of the interest group. One sentence is enough for this answer.
What political party have you selected and what is their position on the issue? Include MLA citation of the political party. One sentence is enough for this answer.
What groups of Texans typically support the party? One sentence is enough for this answer.
Summarize how important your issue is to this party? One sentence is enough for this answer.
The written paper is a four-part assignment.

Paper is less than 500 words – not double spaced – not Times Roman. 20 points off
Not organized into 7 paragraphs – 20 points
No MLA in-text citation included at the end of each paragraph. 20 points off

Writing the Paper
Part I – Introduction:
Write an introductory paragraph explaining the issue – be sure to include the purpose of the paper and how the paper will be organized.
Part II (two paragraphs)
Select two interest groups with opposing views on the issue.
Use their website for your correct MLA citation at the end of each paragraph.
Write a separate paragraph on each interest group’s position answering the following questions in each paragraph:
The type of interest group it is (for example, economic, public, single-issue, or intergovernmental. Refer to your textbook for further info on interest groups as need be.
The structure and funding source for the interest groups. (See the group’s website for this information.)
The interests group’s position on your issue and why it is taking this position.
Part III (three paragraphs)
Select either the Democratic or Republican Party.
Write one paragraph summarizing the party’s platform on this issue taken from the party’s platform website. Use their website for your correct MLA citation at the end of each paragraph:
Write one paragraph to answer each question:
What group (demographic) across the country typically support the party? Be sure to include data. Use MLA citation at the end.
In your opinion, state thoroughly how important the issue is to party and why?
Part IV Conclusion
Conclude with a paragraph stating which interest group is likely to have the most influence on the party and why.
