Write a brief essay (500 words maximum) discussing the topic below. In the subject line of the email, put the words “PHIL1034 Assignment 1”. Use 12-point Times New Roman font, 1-inch margins, and 1.5-line spacing. State the total word count at the end of the paper. Include only your essay; do not repeat the assignment question. Do, however, include a title for your essay.
Use only your own words. Papers that are too similar to each other or to the lecture notes will be marked down for unoriginality.
Why should you be moral? What reasons, if any, are there for acting to promote others’ interests at the potential expense to your own interests?What reasons, if any, are there for not harming or taking advantage of others when doing so might be in your own interest, especially if you wouldn’t be caught and punished for doing so?
Pick one of the philosophers we’ve discussed from weeks 3-5 – Mencius, Xunzi, Plato, Aristotle, Śāntideva, Nietzsche, or Zhuangzi – and present how they might answer the above questions. Do you agree or disagree with their answer? Explain why.
